Kindergarten Registration

Anyonehaving a child who will attend kindergarten in Onslow County Schoolsfor the2004-05 school year should register their child at the school in their current attendance area on Aril 27-28,2004.  (If your child will be attendingCarolina Forest Elementary during the 2004-05 school term, you shouldregisteryour child on these dates at the school in your currentattendance area.) Parents who are unable to register theirchild on those days should call the school and arrange a moreappropriate timeas soon as possible. The times for parents to register their childrenare 9:00a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Kindergartencandidates must be five years of age on or before October 16, 2004.

Parentsshould take the following items with them to school: a certified birthcertificate, an immunization record, the child’s social security number(ifavailable) and income verification for free physical assessmentsprovided bythe Onslow County Health Department. As a reminder, parents areresponsible forobtaining physical assessments of their children (Senate Bill 293) andallrequired immunizations before school entry. Students who do not complywillhave 30 calendar days from the first day of attendance to present therequiredimmunizations and/or health assessment. After 30 calendar days, theprincipalwill not permit the child to attend school until the required healthassessmentand immunizations are presented.

Parents are encouraged tohandle this matter as soon as possible because waiting until fall mayresult inthe child not being permitted to attend school because the parent wasunable toget an appointment for immunizations and/or physical at the last minute.

Freeimmunizations will also be provided on a walk-in basis everyday of theweek(Monday-Friday) at the Onslow County Health Department at 612 CollegeStreet,Jacksonville, according to the following times:

Inorder to prevent a longwaiting period, parents are encouraged to call (910) 347-2154 (chooseoption 2 whenthe phone system answers) and make an appointment prior to going to theHealthDepartment.

 TheOnslow County Health Department also provides free physicals toqualifyingchildren. Parents should call the Health Department and schedule anappointmentimmediately after registering their children. Parents of nonqualifyingchildren may receive physicals on a sliding fee basis. Nonqualifyingparentsshould take with them some form of income verification when they go totheHealth Department.
